What is an implant?

An implant is an artificial dental root that is placed in the jawbone to replace the function and esthetics of missing teeth and is made of titanium. In time, the artificial dental root combines with the jaw bone and palate bone and is the best alternative to natural dental roots. It provides a better speaking and chewing function compared to traditional bridge-work and prostheses and a natural appearance in the face in terms of esthetics

In which cases can dental implants be applied?

In cases of a single or multiple missing teeth, implants can be applied if there is sufficient bone and the patients’ health status is suitable. Although advanced age is not a contraindication for implant placement, it is disadvantageous in young patients in whom the development of the jaw bone is not complete.

Impacted teeth

Number 8 teeth, which are also known as wisdom teeth, have a high potential to be impacted in the population. These teeth, which cannot find a place for healthy eruption especially in the lower jaw due to limited space can periodically lead to severe problems.

The chewing area has narrowed with softer foods over time and wisdom teeth are not required any more. The teeth, which cannot erupt because of limited space, may lead to infections, jaw cysts, pain and severe abscesses by compressing the teeth in front. Impacted teeth found after infections and pain can usually be extracted by minor surgical interventions.

Prosthesis and esthetic therapies porcelain veneers and bridge therapies

This is the traditional treatment method for teeth damaged because of various causes or for lost teeth. It is performed to prevent cracking or fracturing of weakened teeth or of the teeth for which root treatment has been applied. After caries are cleaned, the tooth is prepared by reduction so that the veneer is placed over it. Afterwards, the dental model is trimmed and the tooth is formed in the laboratory in accordance with the form and color of the natural tooth. It is fixed on the prepared natural tooth.

Esthetics

Esthetics dentistry, which has come to the fore in recent years, evaluates the teeth and related mouth and face as whole and handles them in terms of health and cosmetics. Here, the artistic point of view of the dentist is as important as his/her notion and experience. To catch naturalness the teeth should be prepared in compliance with the form and color of the face. Teeth that are flat as a wall and pure white are never accepted as esthetic teeth. Here, the main point is to obtain naturally appearing teeth that you will also like as far as your jaw and structure permit. There are many points that can be addressed in the design of a smile. These criteria vary according to each patient. Gender, age, occupation, skin and hair color are the criteria that affect the design.

Tooth bleaching

In patients who have congenital dark colored teeth or whose dental color is turned yellow because of different causes, the color of the teeth is transformed to the desired whiteness. Bleaching products produced with current technology transforms the color of the teeth to their normal whiteness without harming the teeth.

Gingivectomy

(Adjustment of the gingival Form and Levels). In cases where the gingiva appears more prominent than normal while smiling and in cases of level disorders, gingivectomy under local anesthesia (laser assisted gingival adjustment) is performed.

Endodontic and orthodontics

Endodontic (Root Canal therapies)

Previously teeth used to be extracted in cases of damage to the soft dental layer. However, tooth extraction is not the only solution with the current root canal therapies applied currently. Under root canal therapies, the nerves in roots of the tooth are killed but the tooth remains rooted in the jaw but not sensitive. The advantage is u remain with your natural tooth and yet not hurting.

Orthodontics

This is the discipline which aims to prevent disorders related with the areas of the teeth, jaw and face, to stop progression of and treat present disorders, and to provide good esthetics and functions (biting, chewing, speaking, smiling and crying). The dentist specialized in this is called orthodontist.

Composite fillings

Currently, composite fillings are preferred because they are esthetic and durable. Metal fillings, which are also known as amalgam fillings, are almost not needed any more. Previously, the structure of composites was more fragile, durable metal fillings were preferred in the posterior group of teeth (where chewing pressure is very high). However, the structure of composite fillings has been improved recently and they have become as metal fillings.

Pedodontics (Dental Therapies in children)

Primary teeth start to erupt from the 6th month. When the child is 2.5 years old, eruption is completed. However, earlier or delayed eruptions may occur because of genetic factors

  • Redness, itching, swelling in the gums
  • Increased flow of saliva
  • Desire to bite hard objects
  • Loss of appetite and restlessness may be observed.

Here, parents should give the necessary care and compassion to their children, clean their gums with a cold cloth, give them cold teeth and use painkiller pomades under the supervision of a dentist.

Periodontology
Diseases of the gum
Periodontal diseases are infectious diseases of the tissue that surrounds and supports the teeth. Periodontal diseases may affect one or more teeth and may be observed in children and in any age group. It is one of the most common chronic diseases in the population. Since it usually does not lead to pain, it is difficult for the patient to recognize the symptoms and most patients refer to dentists in a late stage. Teeth with no decay may also be lost because of this disease. The primary reason of periodontal diseases is the remnants called, “microbial dental plaque” harboring many microorganisms that accumulate on all surfaces of the teeth, in the gingivodental crevice and between the teeth as a result of lack of regular and efficient brushing. If this plaque is not cleaned, microorganisms and harmful substances may cause dental decay and periodontal diseases.
