Glaucoma examination

Is there any history of blindness in your family?  You may have glaucoma. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of adult blindness. It is a condition that causes damage to the eye nerve. If you are over age 40 and have a family history of glaucoma, you should have a complete eye examination with an eye doctor every one to two years. Retina (nerve layer inside the eye) examination

Do you have diabetes? You have to check your eye routinely for diabetic retinopathy!

The retina is a nerve layer inside the eye. Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that occurs inside of the eye. It occurs in persons with diabetes, and causes progressive damage to the retina.

In people who have been with diabetes for more than 5 years, annual eye examination is required.
