An ultra sound scan is a medical test that uses high frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. It is used to examine body organs, tissues, and vessels without the need of surgery or incision. Since this method does not use radiation it is preferred to other methods for viewing the fetus (in pregnant women). It can be used to create images for blood vessels, the uterus, bladder, eyes, pancreas, spleen, etc. in patients. The ultra sound scan examination can be followed by other examinations like biopsy, if the examination provided conclusive results a doctor may immediately start the treatment.
How an ultra sound is carried out
In most cases you will be required to put on a hospital gown and then a section of your body will be exposed to the test. A jelly is then applied to your skin in the place where the ultra sound transducer is going to be rubbed, it is this machine that sends high frequency sound waves through your body and then those sound waves are reflected to the computer for processing. There are no after examination effects so after, you will be able to go on to your daily activities.
